The Kalamalka Highlanders Pipe Band is active in the community, performing at many events throughout the North Okanagan. In addition to the organized events, the band performs at many Senior Retirement Homes during the summer months, private events, Canada Day celebrations, and run an annual Christmas Pub Crawl to raise money for Santa's Anonymous. The following provides a brief summary of the events that we are honoured to participate in.
The Kalamalka Highlanders take part in this annual parade, marching through the streets of Armstrong in celebration of the long-running Interior Provincial Exhibition.
Braving the winter temperatures of February, the Kalamalka Highlanders perform at the highly anticipated annual Vernon Winter Carnival Parade.
The Friends of Fintry Provincial Park Society hosts numerous events during year, including the Mother's Day Faire, and Fintry Bat Festival and the Fintry Bear Affair Festival. The Kalamalka Highlanders Pipe Band is honoured to perform at all of these events!
Joining pipe bands from the southern interior of BC, the Spring Fling is a weekend of performances, parades, and mass bands.
The Kalamalka Highlanders take part in this annual parade, marching through the streets of Lumby, supporting and celebrating the community.
The Kalamalka Highlanders organize an annual Burns supper in January, celebrating the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns. This is an evening celebrating not only Robert Burns, but also Scottish culture, and includes performances by the Aviemore School of Highland Dance, the Scottish Country Dances, and the Kalamalka Highlanders, and includes traditional foods, even a slice or two of haggis for those brave enough to try!
Band members have participated in the Okanagan Military Tattoo, Western Canada's only military tattoo and the region’s largest indoor event. This event features including massed pipes and drums, military and civilian bands, highland dancers, cultural troupes, and precision drill teams. The event blends music, movement, and ceremony to honour Canada’s military history and celebrate community spirit.
